Moisture damage
Moisture rarely shows where it gets in. We find the cause, assess how far it has spread through the structure, and deal with both the entry point and the damage it left behind.
Assessment first
Find the cause before anything gets repaired
Moisture in a leisure vehicle almost always starts somewhere other than where you see it. Water that gets in at a seam, a trim or a fitting travels through the structure and only shows up further along as a soft wall, a discolouration or a smell.
So we always start with the cause. There's no point repairing a surface if water keeps getting in behind it — you'd be back with the same damage next season.
Once we know where the water is getting in, we assess how far it has gone. Only then can we tell you what needs doing, and give you an honest answer about the extent.

Moisture damage
Moisture damage we deal with
From finding the entry point to restoring what was damaged.
Finding the entry point
We go over seams, trims, windows, hatches and fittings to find where the water is actually getting in.
Assessing the extent
We assess how far the moisture has travelled through the structure — and we're honest when the damage is worse than it looks.
Sealing the cause
The cause is dealt with first, so the vehicle is watertight before we restore what was damaged.
Restoring surfaces
Panels, laminate, plastic and interior are restored using the same methods as our other repairs.
Assessment & repair
How a moisture case works
A moisture case is harder to judge from photos than panel or paint damage — we usually want to see the vehicle before saying anything about the extent.
- 1
Describe what you're seeing
Get in touch with photos and a description: where you see or feel the moisture, and when it started if you know.
- 2
Going over the vehicle
We go over the vehicle to find where the water gets in and how far it has travelled through the structure.
- 3
An answer on the extent
You get an honest answer on what needs doing — and if the damage is widespread enough that replacement is right, we'll say so.
- 4
Sealing & restoring
We deal with the cause first, then restore the surfaces and fittings that were damaged.

Common questions about moisture damage
What we're asked most about moisture, extent and insurance cover.
- How do I know if I have moisture damage?
- Common signs are a soft or yielding wall, discolouration in roof or wall panels, bubbling in the surface layer, or a stale smell that won't air out. If you suspect moisture, it's better to get in touch early than to wait.
- Can you tell how bad it is from photos?
- Rarely. Photos help us understand what you're seeing, but moisture usually shows up far from where it gets in. We generally want to go over the vehicle before saying anything about the extent.
- Is it enough to repair where I can see the moisture?
- No. If the cause is still there, the damage comes back. We always find where the water is getting in and deal with that first — otherwise you're back with the same problem next season.
- Does the whole wall have to be replaced?
- Not necessarily. Our philosophy is to repair rather than replace. But if the moisture is widespread in the structure, or the material is weakened, replacement is sometimes the right solution — and we'll tell you so straight.
- Does insurance cover moisture damage?
- It varies between insurers and often depends on the cause and how long the damage has been developing. We're used to handling insurance and warranty cases and will help you with assessment and documentation.
